The Government and people of Niger State felicitate with Nigerians and international community on this day International Youth Day.
In a press statement released by the Niger State Ministry of Youth Affairs, the 2018 Youth Day is tagged Safe Spaces for Youth.
The Youth Ministry reaffirmed the need for safe spaces in the state where people come together, engage in activities related to their diverse needs and interests, participates in decision making processes that freely expresses Youth views.
The Ministry stated that Abdulsalam Abubakar Youth Center as one of the safe spaces that ensure the dignity and safety of youth in the state, this had enable youth to engage in governance with opportunity to participate in sports and other leisure activities all clustered in the center.
The Ministry further described Youth center as a digital space that help youth interact virtually across borders with everyone through its computer center, it said the private sector and NGO’s are taking maximum advantage of the center in training beneficiaries and trainees in acquiring skills.
The Ministry had assured that the government have put all machineries in motion towards developing safe spaces in all the three senatorial zones of the state, it also reiterated its commitment under Governor Abubakar Sani Bello’s administration in establishing Niger State Green House as a safe space for Youth engagement in agro business at Minna Airport City.
The Ministry finally urged Youth to contribute their quota in Nation building and development through social cohesion and peace, it charged that without the existence of safe space, youth from different ethnicity, gender, religious affiliation or cultural background may feel intimidated to freely contribute to societal norms in the state.
