The Niger State Amputees Football Association had emerged winner of the 2018 first Edition National Amputees Football Championship held at Abuja, organized by the Nigeria Amputees Football Federation and sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The Honourable Commissioner, Niger Sate Ministry of Sports Development, Honourable Duza Babur who received the state amputee’s contingents praised and hailed their emergence as a way forward for the state.
The Commissioner, stated that the victory is one of its kind that need to be commended, he said Niger State emerging as first in the tournament had boosted the chance of the players to be call in the professional league.
The Commissioner however described the state amputees as a source of inspiration for others that engaged in begging instead of productive activity.
Honourable Duza Babur promised to present the trophy to Governor Abubakar Sani Bello and member of the State Executive Council, he stressed that the victory was achieved as a result of team work; the Sports Commissioner reiterated the commitment of the State government to support and sponsor the players to the world amputee’s football championship in Mexico.
The Permanent Secretary, Niger State Ministry of Sports Development, Dr Mohammed Gana, thanked the contingents for making the state proud and promised that the Ministry will continued to support the state amputees football association.
In his presentation, the Chairman Niger State Amputees Football Association, Mr. Suleiman Isah, presented Team Lolo to the State Sports Management as winner of the 2018 first Edition National Amputees Football Championship.
Mr. Suleiman confirmed that Team Lolo of Niger State had defeated Team Ibikunle Amosu of Ogun State, Team Solomon Dalung and Team Chocharis to emerged winner, the Chairman further explained that if given the opportunity to play the world championship at Mexico, the state amputee’s players can be selected to play at the European league level.
Mr. Suleiman finally thanked the state government and the Sports Ministry towards supporting the contingent’s participation at Abuja, which he said had boosted their morals.
Niger state Amputees emerged first in the tournament follows by Team Solomon Dalung in the second category and Ogun State in the third position.
