CSO SUE NIGER HEALTH COMMISIONER, MINISTRY OVER $1.5 MILLION (over N458 million) HEALTH FUND

A civil society organization, Yan-Amajiri endowment initiative have filed a suit against the Niger state commissioner for health, Dr. Mustapha Jibrin and the Niger state Ministry of health over the 1.5 million dollars grant received by the Ministry from the federal ministry of health for the purpose of carrying out the save one million lives initiative in the state.

The civil society organization said the suit has become necessary after several efforts were made for the Ministry to disclose in detail how and where the over N458 million was expended. In a letter to the Ministry in on the 3rd of April 2017 the Civil society sought to know in details citing freedom of information act how the monies were expended and the beneficiaries of the fund.

The Ministry via a letter signed by Dr. Inuwa Junaid on the 16 April, 2018, listed causes of expenses without stating amount expended par item or the procedure for such expenditure. Counsel to the Yan-Almajiri Endowment initiative, Bar. M. A. Abugie said, the suit has become necessary because of the unsatisfactory response from the Ministry which warranted a follow up letter dated 23rd of April, giving the Ministry 5 days to respond but failed.

As at the time of filing this report a court process was being dispatched to the Ministry, while efforts to the reach the commissioner for health, Dr. Mustapha Jibrin was abortive as his known phone number was off.
