Federal Government has been called upon to put proper mechanism to check the activities of the university lecturers instead of forcing students to spend extra year in specialized institutions after graduation.
The Minister of State for Education, Anthony Anwukah proposed that university graduates should spend extra one year in specialized institutions to make them employable.
The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Chinonso Obasi made the statement in exclusive interview with Daily Trust, in Abuja, today.
“I am happy the Minister wants to be so kind to Nigerian students but that is not the problem of the Nigerian students. The major problem of the Nigerian students is the poor mechanism of transferring knowledge to the students.
“Most of these our lecturers behave like semi-gods in our campuses. Most of these lecturers make the students to be afraid of them or hate them. The only solution is Government should put proper mechanism to check the activities of the university lecturers” He said
Obasi who is also a student of Ebonyi State University emphasized that Government should concentrates more on building the relationship between the lecturers and the students.
He advocated that Government should ensure that the normal mechanism that ought to be used to make students to understand what a lecturer is teaching is being checked.
He however advised that Government should also ensure that a lecture is not a threat to the students.
According to him, if all the above mentioned measures are implemented it would go a long way in solving the problem of university lecturers and Nigerian students.
He called on Government to ensure that university lecturers are well equipped and given proper training and to make them compete with their counterparts in other part of the world.
