Bako Kontagora Memorial Stadium will soon be lease out to private investors in the events and planning sector to enhance the stadium capacity and it sustainability, this assertion was made known to the public by the Honorable Commissioner, Niger State Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Development, Alhaji Mamman Musa during an audience participatory phone-in program of the Niger State Television NSTV in Minna.
Alhaji Mamman Musa said the renovation of the stadium is a continues process that will be sustain by the private sector in other to generate revenue for the state, he stated that the Abdulsalam Abubakar Youth Centre Sports complex was leased out to a private investor who had currently turn around the fortune of the sports facility in the Youth center from it former abandonment and negligence.
The Honorable commissioner described Team Niger in the recent concluded National Youth Game in Ilorin as dedicated and committed team work that put their heart for the state, Alhaji Mamman Musa said the school games had help identified talents that were pick for the Youth game which Governor Abubakar Sani Bello saw the need to appoint a Coordinator on Grassroots Sports to that effect.
He stated that the Coordinator on Grassroots Sports is interfacing with the Ministry of Education to give it a holistic approach, he said schools should start building sports facilities in their compound which he stated that a government policy is the pipeline to encourage and make it a condition for schools; the commissioner said this will help identify talents that can fit to represent the state.
Alhaji Mamman revealed that a mini sports complex that can feature about seven games at Ahmadu Bahago secondary school will soon be constructed to complement the existing facilities; he further stated that the 123 indoor sports complex will soon be fix to accommodate about eight games. He highlighted that the Handball sports complex adjacent Bako Kontagora stadium is also currently undergoing renovation which he said might be lease out to investors that have money to put it to proper shape.
The Commissioner explained that the new stadium complex along Maikunkele road started by the previous administration was handed over to a consultant to review and resize it current capacity from 35,000 to 18,000 capacity, Alhaji Mamman Musa said the 2018 budget will address the issue of the new stadium and resolved the lingering problems attach to it and promise it execution starting from next year.
Niger State Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Alhaji Mamman Musa reiterated that Youth should start thinking of what value they can add to society instead of relying on government, he stated that Youth should identify trade or skills that can make them self reliant and contributing to economic growth of the state.
Alhaji Mamman Musa said the present government under Governor Abubakar Sani Bello had diversified skills acquisition into Agriculture which he said can be use by the youth to leverage on it, the commissioner stated that already the government has constructed a demonstration greenhouse for the training of youth in the state.
The commissioner said diversification of the state into agriculture is a priority in other to stop youth from begging (Corporate Beggars), he stated that a committee had been set up to that effect to stop the ugly menace that lead the youth to begging, he said the committee is creating a databank for baseline use to capture those involved in the begging.
He said government is rolling out 750 youth skills acquisition program in the state, the commissioner identified that the program was designed to train the trainer scheme which he stated that a beneficiary in the last exercise was able to set up a fish business that is presently inducting other youth into the trade.
Alhaji Mamman Musa challenged Youth to take there destiny in their hands, he charged that it is time for the youth to raise and become an entrepreneur instead of waiting for government to engaged them, he said youth should not be angry with the system or blame the present administration as the government is creating the enabling environment and policies to engaged the youth, he finally stated that the government is not a magician and the Nation depend on the youth for it sustenance and wished Nigerians a happy 57 years independence anniversary.
