SPEAKER PLAN TO IMPEACH NIGER DEPUTY GOVERNOR

News

The speaker Niger State House of Assembly, Hon. Adamu Usman has stated that there was no plan to impeach the deputy governor of the state, Hon. Ahmed Musa Ibeto because he defected from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC).

Hon. Usman stated this yesterday in Minna while speaking to LEADERSHIP Friday following the rumour doing the rounds that Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu has allegedly induced members of the House of Assembly to impeach the deputy governor.

The speaker stated that it was not possible to impeach the deputy governor by just a letter or petition from the governor adding that the speculation on the alleged planned impeachment of the deputy governor was the figment of some people’s imagination.

He explained that “there is no way under section 188 of the 1999 constitution that, you can just say you want to go and impeach the governor or deputy governor merely because he has defected”.

According to him there was no such letter from the governor for the impeachment of Hon. Ibeto as deputy governor and that if a petition of that nature must get the attention of the members of the house it must be by the one-third of the members of the house, addressed to the speaker, not by the governor.

Usman stated that there were processes for impeachments based on cogent allegations not just a mere letter from the governor, pointing out that so far the house have not received such a letter from the governor.
