Senator Iyorchia Ayu is the pick of the Northern Caucus for the Chairmanship position of the People’s Democratic Party.
The party had zoned the position to the Northern region during its 94th National Executive Council meeting in Abuja.
Addressing Journalists shortly after its meeting held at the Bauchi Governors lodge in Abuja on Thursday, Chairman of the forum and Governor of Adamawa State Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri announced the decision of the Northern leaders and Elders to endorse Dr Iyorchia Ayu a former Senate President as the candidate presented by the Northern Caucus.
Governor Fintiri explained that out of the three candidates nominated from the zones, Senator Ayu was picked as consensus candidate.
He said there was no election and therefore there’s no victor no vanquish, adding that the three candidates in the spirit of unity agreed amongst themselves to allow Ayu to contest.
While restating the commitment of the party to deepen democracy, Rt.Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri noted that PDP will not let Nigerians down, especially that Nigeria needs the right leadership at this critical period of her development.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri commended the understanding between the three brothers, describing it as a testament of the capacity of the PDP to lead Nigeria to the Promised land.
Governor Fintiri noted that all three are eminently qualified and was quick to praise their commitment to ensure the party moves on.
PDP has scheduled October 30th and 31st as dates for its 2021 National Convention.
