Juventus vs Napoli in limbo over coronavirus outbreak

Napoli have been told they cannot travel for their Serie A match against Juventus due to health concerns, SportsMail reports.

The Italian champions, however, insist the fixture should go ahead.

Gennaro Gattuso’s side were set to travel on Saturday afternoon at 4pm ahead of Sunday’s showdown, but local authorities in Naples have banned the team from leaving the Campagnia area as it is not safe.

COVID-19 cases among Italian football teams have risen in the past few days, with Genoa reporting 22 cases, while two Juventus staff have been diagnosed with the virus.

Napoli duo Elif Elmas and Piotr Zielinski have also caught the virus and the local health authority in the southern Italian region does not want to risk further spread of the disease in the area.

Juventus are, however, kicking against a postponement of the match.

The club tweeted on Saturday night: “Juventus Football Club announces that the First Team will take to the field for the Juventus – Napoli match tomorrow at 20:45, as foreseen by the Serie A League calendar.”
