Niger State Government has called on all the Local Government Chairmen in the State to ensure that the precautionary measures taken by Government to curb the spread of coronavirus in the State are adhere strictly by the people at that level of Government.

A statement issued by Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chairman, Niger State Task Force on COVID-19, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane explained that although the State is yet to record any single case of an outbreak, therefore Government is committed in ensuring that the people of the State are secured from the deadly disease.

Ahmed Matane stated that the State Task Force on COVID-19 has a duty to work closely with all relevant stakeholders in order to ensure that everything is been done to reduce the chance of the virus taking root and spreading in the State.

The SSG directed Chairmen of Local Government Areas that share common border with neighboring States to ensure effective monitoring of people and vehicles coming into their respective areas while entering point to the State remain close.

The Chairman said coronavirus is a global emergency for people’s lives and health, hence the need for citizens to strictly observe precautionary measures such as avoiding contact base greetings, social distancing, regular and thorough washing of hands with soap, suspension of all forms of gathering among several others.

He appealed to retired Doctors, Nurses and other Health Workers to be on standby in the advent of any outbreak as Government is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that the people of the State are prevented from the pandemic.

The Chairman, Task Force on COVID-19 in the State urged security agencies to always demonstrate commitment in this challenging tasks of our history.
