Niger State Commissioner Of Education, Hajiya Hannatu Jibrin Salihu has restated the state Government commitment to establish a sustained partnership with United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation ( UNESCO). for the development of basic education in the state.
Hajiya Hannatu Jibrin, stated this during a working visit with the ministry’s management team to the UNESCO Office at UN house Abuja on the 20/02/2020.
The Commissioner stated that education is a prime vehicle for promoting shared prosperity and a reliable route out of poverty because of its long and consistent effect on individuals for economic growth.
The Commissioner reiterated that the Ministry is responsible for policy formulation, implementation in basic and secondary education, supervises as well as coordinates the activities of its parastatals.
She said the Ministry is anxiously looking forward to more innovative , result oriented and focused collaboration, leveraging on long standing partnership and more investment in basic and secondary education in the bid to provide quality and accessable education for the teaming people in the state particularly the marginalized girls and boys of school going age.
Speaking earlier, the UNESCO Regional Director Mr YDO YAO who recieved the team expressed delight for the visit and assured the Commissioner of their strong ties with the Ministry.
Mr YDO YAO, said UNESCO is not a donor Organisation but have expertise and technical team that will look into the areas of needs for intervention.
He said they have everything it takes that will help in enhancing quality of education especially at the basic and secondary Schools in the state.
The Regional Director therefore assured that the technical team will look into those areas of concern and the next meeting will be in minna in a couple of days.
Hajiya Hannatu was accompanied by the permanent Secretary Abubakar Aliyu and the Director Planning research and statistics among top management staff.
