NIGER GOVERNMENT SET TO REVIVE SCHOOL SPORTS COMPETITION.

The Hon. Commissioner Ministry of Education, Niger State, Hajiya Hannatu Jibrin Salihu has expressed her desire to collaborate with Ministry for Youth and Sports with a view to reviving Schools Sports Competition and talent hunt.

The Commissioner made the state government’s intention known during an interface with the Commissioner of Youth and Sports Ministry with his team at the Office of the Hon. Commissioner Ministry Of Education on the 27/01/2020.

Hajiya Hannatu, noted that the Ministry is ready to partner with the Youth and Sports Ministry in terms of engaging the youth by grooming them as athletes through adequate monitoring and nurturing.

She said her Ministry will also synergies with Youth and Sports Ministry in the provision of adequate equipment for general use by the students in schools across the State.

She said, she has challenged Principals of Secondary Schools especially those in boarding schools to device means of engaging students in extra curricular activities with sports as the driving force, adding that doing so would also assist in boosting students’ mental ability and enhanced their learning capabilities.

Earlier, the Hon. Commissioner Ministry Of Youth and Sports, Niger State, Hon. Emanuel Umar
said his Ministry is very ready to collaborate with Ministry Of Education in other to achieve the same goal, which is reviving Schools Sports Competition.

He opined that his Ministry would give technical advise on how to discover the new talents in Sports and how they can be further strengthened through scholarships and other empowerment initiatives in order to serve as morale boosters to the younger ones.

At the end of the meeting, 5-man committee was set up to come up with a concept within which the two Ministry can work with. The committee by the mandate, is expected to submit its report next week.

In a related development, Niger State Commissioner of Education, Hajiya Hannatu Jibrin Salihu, alongside the Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Hon. Emanuel Umar, permanent Secretaries of the two Ministry and the Directors from the Ministry Education have received the winner of the 2020 Zayed Sustainability Prize, for Global High Schools category Sub-saharan African Award, which took place early this month at Abu Dhabi Dubai.

Hajara Musa SS3 Student of Hakimi Aliyu Secondary School Mokwa who became the overall best at the grandfinale in Abu Dhabi, Dubai was accompanied by the Principal and a research scientist Mr Salawuddeen Abdulwaheed who was the reason for their participation in the competition.

While congratulating the young girl, the Hon. Commissioner said it is a victory not only for the girl and the School but for the State and Nigeria as whole.

Hajiya Hannatu, therefore presented a cash gift to the Student, the Principal and the Research Scientist Mr Salaudeen Abdulwaheed.

Zayed Sustenability Prize project is about food security and energy efficiency using the students as the engine room to dissimilate the ideas out, which the School partake in and became the overall best.

It would be recalled that the School Hakimi Aliyu Secondary School Mokwa was adopted as free afforestation project School in 2015 by the Head of Research Station, Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria, Mr Salawuddeen Abdulwaheed, during his research on planting of trees and used the school as the case study, which metamorphosed to the victory of the student of the School.
