World Squash Event: Federation Boss Hails Team Nigeria

Dedition of  World Men’s team championship held in the United States of America, President of Nigeria Squash Racket Federation, Boye Oyerinde has commended the country’s players saying that with  adequate exposure and support they will challenge the best in the sports.

The championship which was held at squash on Fire in Washington, USA  from December 15-21, 2019, was organised by  US Squash and sanctioned by World Squash Federation.

It attracted 23 teams from all the five confederations, namely; the host nation USA, Nigeria, Jamaica, South Korea, South Africa, Switzerland, Singapore, Argentina and Canada.

Others are winners of the championship, Egypt, runners-up, England, joint 3rd winners; France and Wales.

Also in attendance were, Scotland, Hong Kong, Germany, Kuwait, Colombia, Ireland and Spain. 

Oyerinde believes that the experience garnered will be of immense held in planning for future international competitions.

“I’m happy with the performance of our players because they played against the best in the World but were not disgraced.

” The players learnt a lot and the exposure garnered  cannot be quantified. The good thing is that we came out better than last edition and the experience will definitely help us in planning for future championships”, he stressed.

On the plans of the Federation for this year, he explained that they will build on the successes recorded last year, organise more tournaments and take the issue of grassroots development of the sports serious in order to get replacement for ageing  players.

“In 2019, we recorded some successes in the areas of increased tournaments and we intend to build on those successes and make grassroots development of the  sports top priority because we want to discover more talented players who would be groomed to not only replace the ageing ones but become future championships”, he assured.
