Open Government Partnership in collaboration with Niger State Planning Commission had set in motion preparations for citizens participation and input towards the 2020 budget appropriation, the engagement organized in three Senatorial districts of the state was geared towards making the 2020 Niger State budget a people oriented fiscal policy by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello .

The Zone B budget engagement stakeholders consultative forum was held at lace Hotel Suleja were diverse groups, organizations, associations and Non governmental bodies participated in chatting a new course for the 2020 appropriation bill.

The Permanent Secretary, Niger State Planning Commission has emphasized that the 2020 budget preparations was a bold steps to get people involved as a participatory appropriation.

While in his remarks, the Chairman of Chairmen forum in the state, Dr Dahiru Abdullahi Dan’asabe stated that citizens engagement will address the yearning and aspirations of the people in fulfilling campaign promises, he said it will go a long way in answering citizens questions on budgetary provision.

Speaking, during the forum the OGP Niger State Coordinator, reiterated the need to synergize with citizens as an open process for people oriented budget.

Representing, the stakeholders, Alhaji Tungan Wawa stressed out that unless people begin to participate in budget process, it will continue to delude citizens on the nitty gritty of appropriating fiscal policy, he said it is mandatory for government to subject its appropriation plans to people for their inputs and for citizens to understand the process of how there tax is being expended.

During, her presentation, the Director Budget Niger State Planning Commission outline the focus of the 2020 appropriation as Agric, Health, Infrastructure, Water, Education, Women, Youth and Security as a priority items that need citizens inputs.

Highlighting legislative processes, the Honourable Member Representing Bosso Constituency in Niger State House of Assembly, Honourable Malik Madaki Bosso commended the planning commission attempt to speedy legislation and passage of the 2020 appropriation bill, he said once the process reach the house the items inputted by citizens will receive high consideration from members.

Finally, the Rt. Honourable Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Abdullahi Bawa Wuse rated the entire process as a key and critical to the success of the present administration, he said the 2020 budgetary allocation will contribute immensely to government accountability and transparency processes.

During the stakeholders budget forum, it is estimated that Niger State Board of Internal Revenue had generated about 10.4billion in 2018 proposal, and about 3.4billion in six month for 2019 11.3billion proposal.
