Cross River State Pensioners have applauded the administrations two former governors for the regular payment of pensions and appealed to the incumbent governor to pay them first before serving civil servant.
This was contained in an address presented by the acting state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Comrade Ntamu. E. Adie, at the 16th Pensioner’s Day celebration in Calabar.
Adie said “happily, a lot of progress has been recorded in respect of payment of pensions and gratuity by the state government”.
“Our prayer is that the payment of gratuity that had started then got stopped should please be resumed. We know that our amiable digital governor is a man of honour who makes good his promises”.
He therefore appealed passionately approve the payment of gratuity to those who were yet to receive theirs.
On Federal pensions, he lauded Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) for the good job they did and are doing. So many of our Pensioners, have started receiving their Federal pensions, gratuity and arrears of pensions
Also speaking, the state chairman, Comrade John Ushie, thanked the state governor Senator Ben Ayade for the payment of pensions and gratuity for Pensioners in the state.
He implored the Federal government to release more funds for the payment of Pensions and gratuity of it’s retirees.
The theme of this year’s celebration is “The role of a pensioner in a democratic set up”.
Pensioners from both public and private sectors attended the occasion.
