The Director General of the Nigerian Law School (NLS), Prof Isa Hayatu Chiroma (SAN) has commended the performance of lawyers in this year’s Bar examination conducted by the school.

Prof Chiroma gave the commendation on Tuesday at the opening of a three-day Call to Bar ceremony for 4, 779 new lawyers who joined the legal profession.

He said of 5, 846 students who sat for the Bar examination 4, 779 were successful. He noted that 161 of the candidates made a First Class, while 694 made Second Class Upper Degree. Also, 1, 275 made Second Class Lower while 2, 649 made a Pass.

“The general performance, which is unprecedented, justifies the huge investment and sacrifice made by all concerned. We promise to sustain and even surpass the attained record with zeal to continuously progress in all we do as long as our students are willing to excel,” he said.

Also, the chairman of the Body of Benchers, Bashri Dalhatu, commended the new wigs for a good performance in the Bar examination and advised them to undergo sufficient tutelage under experienced senior members of the Bar before venturing on their own.
