Nigeria wrestlers storm New York City for “Beat the Streets” invitational tourney

The National Female Wrestling Coach, Purity Akuh, says the New York-bound wrestlers for the upcoming “Beat The Streets’’ invitational competition will represent the country well.

Akuh made the assertion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) shortly before the team’s departure at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos on Sunday night.

The team which departed Nigeria aboard a Delta Airlines flight, was led by Daniel Igali, the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF).

The wrestlers that made up the team are Africa’s highest ranked female wrestlers, Odunayo Adekuoroye (57kg) and Aminat Adeniyi (62kg), while Blessing Oborududu would later join the team in New York.

The coach told NAN that the wrestlers were fully prepared and motivated to excel at the one-day competition, which would hold on May 17 at the Times Square, New York City.

“They are good to go, they have prepared for this competition for about two weeks and they are good to conquer.
“Each of the wrestlers have what it takes to emerge as a conqueror, they are all experienced and skilled wrestlers,’’ he said. (NAN)
