The Niger State Commissioner of Mineral Resources has expressed the commitment of the Abubakar Sani Bello led administration in making positive changes that will lead to the development of the State’s Mineral Sector. She stated this when she granted audience to the leadership of Niger State Mining Association.
The President of the Association, Obet Yakoi Kango, enumerated the challenges being faced by the members of the association to include funding, harassment by security operatives and inadequate mining equipment. He solicited for the intervention of the State in providing equipment on lease to enhance their operation and made emphasis on the need for the establishment of Solid Mineral Market in the State.
In her response, Hon. Rahmatu intimated the group about the efforts of the Ministry in setting up a data room to provide information about the types of mineral resources in the State and their location to ease mining activities. In addition, she explained the modalities of the N5billion BOI fund for the sector, the efforts of her Ministry in acquiring mining equipment and stated that a town hall meeting will be held soon between the Ministry, the Association, the host communities and stakeholders to promote peace within the mining areas.
She thereafter reiterated the commitment of Mr. Governor in ensuring the full and speedy development of the mineral sector to harness its full potentials.
The Association had earlier presented a congratulatory card to the Commissioner at the meeting that was attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Joseph Kolo James, the Vice President of the Association, Ibrahim Mainaji, the Secretary, Yusuf Shuaibu, and the Auditor General, Umar Dan’Asabe.
