Niger State House of Assembly has Commended the Management Staff of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai, under the abled leadership of the Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Nasir Maiturare, for the Untiring effort to ensure that the integrity, quality and Standard of Education in the institution has remained a role model among its Contemporary in the State and the Country at large.
This was disclosed by the House Committee Chairman on Education, Science and Technology of the State Assembly, Hon. Bako Kasim Alfa, Member Representing Bida 1 Constituency, when the Committee summoned a emergency interface with the officials of the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Alh, Yahaya A. Garba, in company of the Vice Chancellor of the IBB University and other officials of the Institution, to brief the House Committee on the recent Admission policy of the University for this year’s admission exercise, which the House Committee Chairman on Education, disclosed was as a result of persistence public outcry on the matter, which prompted the Committee to summoned the emergency interface, despite the fact that the House is now on recess, the Committee deem it necessary to be proactive and wade on the matter.
Hon. Bako Kasim Alfa and other Members of the Committee expressed satisfaction with the explanation of the Vice Chancellor on the new cut off mark analysis for this year’s admission, after receiving the detailed statistical briefings on the admission issues from the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nasir Maiturare, which was as a result of the current JAMB Examination result, that pegged the new National Cut Off mark to 120 Points for the overall 400 Marks scores for its examination for Candidates seeking to gain admission for any University Education, which was the outcome of low recorded entry score points by prospective candidates in this year’s JAMB Examination nationwide.
The Committee then advise the Management of the Institution to embark on adequate sensitization of Members of the public through the Mass media in other to enlighten Parents, Guardians and prospective applicants of the new admission policy of the university in line with their own entrance qualification to suit their prevailing circumstances as advocated and directed by JAMB authority in the Country.
Prof. Nasir Maiturare, Vice Chancellor of the IBBU further informed the Committee that after due consultations of all relevant authorities of the Tertiary Institutions in the Country with the Management of JAMB in Abuja, based on the outcome of the Current result of the JAMB Examinations, which recorded low performances from prospective Candidates seeking for University Admission and other higher Institutions in the country, the IBBU Management, after careful consideration of all applicants and other variables for the Institution, decided to even review downward its 2016 JAMB Score mark requirement for admission from 180 Points used in 2016 to 160 points for this year admission, in order to ensure it maintained its quality, respect and profile and to also ensure that the State quota is adequately considered and captured to liberalized its admission for indigenes of the State, in line with available infrastructures in the Institution.
Prof. Nasir Maiturare, then commended the State Government under the leadership of Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello for adding values to the Institution through budgetary increases and the State Legislature under the leadership of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Marafa Ahmed Guni and the relevant Committees of the House, other key Stakeholders in the State for its concern, understanding, cooperation and support in the discharge of the university statutory functions.
