I write to openly congratulate the efforts of Gov. Abu Sani Bello of Niger State in his desire to give Niger State a more befitting Press Centre.
His directives towards the immediate Rehabilitation of the Centre from the present status has actually made some of us Happy.
I remember sometime in the Late 1980’s when Governor Col. Lawan Gwadabe, at the occasion of the commissioning of the Government House Minna Press Centre as his Chief Press Secretary then to appeal to the Former President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) to construct a Press Centre in Minna of International Standard fully equipped with all media Gadgets for him to address a world Press Conference after his retirement.
Before then we did our home work with the then NUJ Chairman of the State Jubrin Suleiman.
When Col. Gwadabe approached him he instantly instructed the Governor to go ahead. Within a twinkle, the construction giant that built the Government Press Centre – Julius Berger, were awarded the contract.
In Nick of Time the IBB Pen House was ready for commissioning. the rest is history.
Why I’m commending Governor Abu Sani?
I am doing so because of his passion for the development of Journalism Profession.
YES! Previous Governors before him donated Buses to NUJ and NAWOJ – the difference between them is that none of them thought of providing a conducive working environment for the Journalist apart from Governor Abu. I STAND TO BE CORRECTED
OK Someone just whispered to me that it is not only renovation but total Overhauling of the Centre including the provision of the most sophisticated modern equipments to conform with any International and Global Media-Melting Pot.
